Western Illinois University will host a National Senior Health & Fitness Day event from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Brophy Hall in Macomb.

The event is organized by WIU's The Healthy Resources Institute for Vital Enrichment, known as T.H.R.I.V.E., which the university says started with a donation by Miriam Satern. It is open to Macomb community members aged 50 and older and offers a chance to learn more about health, wellness and fitness.

This year's theme is "Move a little, live a lot!"

"We are proud to empower bodies, educate minds, and elevate senior wellness on campus and in the greater community," Tammi Bories said.

Faculty and students from WIU's School of Nursing, Applied Health and Human Performance will offer health and fitness screenings and assessments throughout the event. Attendees can also attend presentations and access educational materials on healthy aging and wellness.

According to the release, National Senior Health & Fitness Day is an annual observance that promotes the importance of physical activity, health and wellness for older adults.
