Background

The Office of Public Safety is a full-service police department that provides security services to the Western Illinois University campus 24 hours a day, according to the university's website. The office is based at Mowbray Hall and can be reached at (309) 298-1949.

The university notes that its crime log is compiled using the Illinois Criminal Code and may not match the crime statistics reported under the federal Clery Act, which are compiled using federal Uniform Crime Reporting definitions. Under federal law, the office may withhold certain details if disclosure is prohibited by law, would jeopardize a victim's confidentiality or an ongoing investigation, would allow a suspect to evade detection, or would result in the destruction of evidence.

All are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
