The Illinois Department of Transportation says the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on U.S. 30 east of Shabbona in DeKalb County will close Sunday, Oct. 18, for repairs.

IDOT says the closure will last seven days to allow crews to repair the at-grade crossing.

A posted detour will direct motorists to Interstate 39, Illinois 38 and Illinois 23.

IDOT says drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through the area, and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. The agency says motorists should consider alternate routes when feasible.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey posted speed limits, avoid using mobile devices, and stay alert for workers and equipment.
