Background
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources website, all state park programs and events are free to visitors, though some require pre-registration and donations are appreciated. The programs are supported by the Starved Rock Foundation, a not-for-profit friends group of the park, along with contributions from visitors and the community.
The department's website says the Starved Rock Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and serves as headquarters for park operations, including the park office and an interpretive center with exhibits detailing the park's history, geology and ecology. The site notes the Visitor Center is closed on Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving.
The Visitor Center is located along the Illinois River off Route 178, near Utica. The park's main phone line is 815-667-4726.
