Gov. JB Pritzker and First Lady MK Pritzker made more than $9 million in adjusted gross income in 2025, according to tax return summaries his campaign released Thursday.
The summaries, prepared by Deloitte Tax LLP, show the couple reported $9.4 million in income, Capitol News Illinois reported. That figure does not include income from the family trusts that make up much of the billionaire governor's wealth.
According to Capitol News Illinois, the income included $4 million from capital gains, $3.6 million from dividends and $1.8 million from interest. Pritzker does not take a salary from the state.
The couple paid $2.1 million in federal taxes and paid in $5.1 million, resulting in a $2.8 million refund that they applied to their 2026 taxes, Capitol News Illinois reported. Pritzker claimed a $1.9 million standard deduction on his state filing, meaning he paid taxes on $7.6 million in income.
Income down from 2024
The $9.4 million is down from the $10.7 million the Pritzkers reported for 2024, when the governor reported $1.4 million in gambling winnings from a weekend of blackjack in Las Vegas, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. No gambling winnings appear on the latest filing, according to the Sun-Times.
Blind trust
Pritzker placed his assets in a blind trust when he was elected in 2019 to avoid potential conflicts of interest. His campaign spokesperson said the trust paid $8.8 million in state taxes and $50.4 million in federal taxes last year, implying additional income in the hundreds of millions of dollars, according to Capitol News Illinois.
Capitol News Illinois reported that Pritzker's required annual statement of economic interest outlines six pages of assets he or someone in his household has an ownership interest in. Pritzker has released his tax returns each year since becoming a candidate in 2017.
The story was distributed by Capitol News Illinois, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news service covering state government. The reporter was Ben Szalinski.
