Monthly CPR certification classes are being offered in Kewanee for residents who want to learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies.

The classes are provided by the Henry and Stark County Health Departments along with First Choice Healthcare.

Health officials say the training prepares people to help infants, children and adults during emergencies. The course covers how to recognize an emergency, what steps to take and the role of automated external defibrillators, known as AEDs, in the cardiac chain of survival.

Classes take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. They are held at the Health Department offices at 110 North Burr Boulevard in Kewanee.
