An Italian-based HVAC company has broken ground on its first U.S. manufacturing site in DeKalb, a project state officials say will create 30 new full-time jobs.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity joined Aermec North America leadership and the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation for the groundbreaking. The company's $15 million investment will support the development of a facility of more than 186,000 square feet in the DeKalb region.
Aermec North America manufactures heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions. The company said the facility will support the production of climate control and energy management system products. Beyond direct employment, officials said the project is expected to generate additional economic benefits through construction activity and support for local suppliers and service providers.
"Aermec chose to locate its first U.S. manufacturing site right here in DeKalb, which reaffirms Illinois' position as a top destination for manufacturers and job creators looking to do business in America," Gov. JB Pritzker said.
Luca Martini, managing director of Aermec North America, said the company has served customers across the U.S. and Canada for more than 20 years.
"Our decision to invest in Illinois was driven by the State's outstanding support and collaboration," Martini said. "We are proud to begin this journey in DeKalb."
Melissa Amedeo, executive director of the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation, said the company chose DeKalb following a competitive search that included sites across multiple states.
The project was supported by the state's Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, agreement with Aermec. State Sen. Sue Rezin welcomed the company to the area, saying the facility will add to the strong manufacturing presence across northern Illinois.
