The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association is offering two free continuing-education webinars for veterinary technicians, both at 7 p.m. Central, to mark National Veterinary Technician Week.

The webinars will be held live on Zoom on Monday, Oct. 19 and Thursday, Oct. 22. According to the association, National Veterinary Technician Week runs Oct. 18-24. The sessions are led by credentialed technicians, with one focused on a clinical skill and the other on career development. Technicians can register for one or both.

Monday, Oct. 19 โ€” Steps to a COHAT

Mary Berg, BS, RVT, LATG, VTS (Dentistry), FVTE, will walk through each step of a thorough dental prophylaxis, including client education, the oral exam, charting pathology and anomalies, radiographs, supra- and subgingival scaling, hand scaling, polishing, irrigation and home care instructions. The association says the session covers why each step matters in preventing or halting disease progression.

Thursday, Oct. 22 โ€” Thinking Outside of the CVT Credential for Career Longevity

Charlotte Waack, CVT, RVT, will discuss how skills built in practice โ€” communication, leadership, record keeping, lab procedures, radiology safety and inventory management โ€” can transfer to roles such as sales, technical services, online scribing, pet poison helplines, insurance and remote work. The session aims to help technicians identify their skills, communicate their value to employers and build a sustainable career path beyond the clinic.
