The Illinois Department of Transportation says bridge-repair work in Peoria that will close an eastbound U.S. 24 lane and shoulder and a ramp to westbound U.S. 150 has been delayed and will now start Wednesday, Nov. 4.
IDOT had originally announced the closures would begin Monday, Nov. 2. The agency said the start date has been pushed back.
The work calls for intermittent daytime lane and right-side shoulder closures on eastbound U.S. 24. In addition, the ramp below the bridge to westbound U.S. 150 will close.
IDOT said the closures are needed to repair a damaged bridge beam on eastbound U.S. 24 over the ramp from northbound Illinois 116 to westbound U.S. 150, about a mile east of the McClugage Bridge.
The closures and project are expected to be completed in three weeks.
Background
The McClugage Bridge carries U.S. 150 over the Illinois River between Peoria and East Peoria, according to IDOT and Wikipedia. The span has been the focus of a multiyear replacement and rehabilitation project in the Peoria area.
