The Illinois Department of Transportation says repairs to a damaged beam on the Illinois 78 bridge over Interstate 74, just east of the Knox County line near Brimfield, begin Oct. 19.
The work will reduce Illinois 78 over I-74 to one lane, with traffic controlled by temporary signals, IDOT said. Daytime lane closures on westbound I-74 will also be necessary.
Toward the end of the project, nighttime lane closures on westbound I-74 will be needed to replace the damaged beam. IDOT said motorists will be notified of that closure in advance by message boards.
The entire project is expected to be completed in about two weeks, according to the department.
