The Humane Society of McDonough County is making a final push in its annual Brix Challenge fundraiser, which wraps up its 2026 campaign at the end of October.
The humane society says the Brix Challenge is its largest single source of fundraising for annual operating costs, and that money raised during October goes directly toward helping animals in need in the county. The organization is urging the community to help it reach a strong finish before the campaign closes.
How to donate
Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to: The Brix Challenge, Humane Society of McDonough County, PO Box 7, Macomb, IL 61455. Donors may also give through the PayPal or Venmo options on the humane society's website at www.hsmcil.org, specifying "Brix Challenge" on the donate page.
Background
According to the Humane Society of McDonough County's website, the organization is an all-volunteer Illinois nonprofit and a 501(c)(3) charity supported entirely by donations. The humane society does not run the county's animal shelter but partners with it, supporting adoption promotion, spay and neuter costs, specialized medical care, and a rescue and foster program.
The humane society says the challenge was started in 2014 by retired Western Illinois University professor Chris Brix, who challenged the community to raise funds for animals in need and pledged to match donations.
