State Sen. Mike Halpin announced that applications are now being accepted for the Small Equipment Grant Program, which benefits fire departments and ambulance services.

"Fire departments and ambulance services are vital parts of our communities, assisting residents when they need it most," said Halpin, D-Rock Island. "This grant program ensures that they are able to help as many people as possible, with the correct tools to do so."

The program assists fire departments and not-for-profit ambulance services in Illinois, particularly those that have difficulty generating the revenue needed for small equipment. The grants allow eligible applicants to purchase small tools and equipment they may not otherwise be able to afford.

A total of $6 million in funding will be available through this year's program. Previously, nearly $6 million was provided to 264 fire departments, fire protection districts and EMS providers across the state.

Interested fire departments and ambulance services must submit applications electronically through the application portal on the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal's website.
