About the association
The Bishop Hill Heritage Association was organized in 1962 to preserve and protect the buildings associated with the Bishop Hill Colony, a Swedish communal settlement that operated from 1846 to 1861, according to the association's website. The group maintains museums, archives and restored colony-era buildings in the village.
